Ventipulmin
Ventipulmin is, and has been for two decades, the treatment of choice for the alleviation of the symptoms associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in horses. Acting in the same way as many human asthma products, Ventipulmin relieves the airway spasm seen in COPD and other respiratory problems. The product is available in a number of formulations granules, syrup, injection, powder, powder combination with antibiotic in order to facilitate treatment in both acute and chronic disease events.
Ventipulmin syrup is an orally administered beta-2 agonist approved by FDA for management of airway obstruction, such as COPD. It is the first approved bronchodilator for use in horses. Bronchodilators relieve the airway obstruction associated with inflammatory airway disease and they work most effectively when combined with allergen and dust avoidance or corticosteroid administration. Like all approved drugs, Ventipulmin has side effects when given in high doses but, at present, there is no published evidence that Ventipulmin administered at the recommended dose has any effect on performance.
Remove safety cap and seal, replace with enclosed dispensing cap. Connect syringe to dispensing tip and draw out appropriate volume of Ventipulmin Syrup. Administer to horse orally twice a day. Initial dose is 0.5 mL/100 lbs body weight twice daily. See package insert for complete dosage schedule. Recommended duration of treatment at effective dose is 30 days. At end of 30-day treatment period, drug should be withdrawn to determine recurrence of signs. If signs return, repeat 30-day treatment regimen.
